RECALL - May 2014

RECALL OFFICIALLY ENDS JULY 7th WITH THE PASSAGE OF MORE THAN 60 DAYS; HOWEVER, WARRANTY CLAIMS ARE STILL ACCEPTED.

Around the beginning of May I was hearing back from the field that some shovels were bending, then breaking off after the repeated bending. After looking into this problem, I found that the hardness was in the acceptible range at ~42c, but that blades were lacking camber which is aka too flat. More particularly, too flat near the middle-to-tip where the stress is. This detail is hard to see at first, but is obvious once a problem has occured. As a measurement, 2mm across 65mm is all the difference.

Needless to say, this has afffected many planters and has rightfully pissed off a lot of people including myself. Not why I do this business...

Now, knowing the problem, I can address the issue by forming the blades on my 20 ton press. The press and forming die give the blade the appropriate amount of camber where the blade cannot bend. See the image (the blade is held at the point where the blades were breaking , which is about middle, and it is fully supporting without distortion my 160 lbs). If this doesn't sound right to you, just look up images of shovels and you will see that they all have a dish shape or camber, and that is for strength/stiffness.

If you you bought a 2014 model shovel before May, (possible after if you bought at a retailer) or have been affected by this, please follow the instructions below to get your replacement shovel:

EMAIL me with the info listed:

  1. (AFTER JULY 7) FILE WARRANTY CLAIM:  http://www.workwizer.ca/accessories.aspx?accessories=133
  2. I need proof of purchase
    • If you bought on my website, I need to know what name the order was under, or what email address was used)
    • If you bought elsewhere, I need a photo of the reciept.
  3. a photo of the blade so that I can forward to the factory...
  4. Size and model of the shovel.
    • if bought online, I can reference your original order
    • if you bought elsewhere, I need to know the length of the shovel, and kicker(s); asymmetric or symmetric?

RECALL OFFICIALLY ENDS JULY 7th WITH THE PASSAGE OF MORE THAN 60 DAYS; HOWEVER, WARRANTY CLAIMS ARE STILL ACCEPTED.

I want to offer my sincerest apology to all affected, and many of whom are big supporters of my business . I know that planting is tough enough without having any gear issues. I do take this seriously and am working on systems to ensure that nothing like this ever happens again. After all, this was why I was working with a new factory as I wasn't happy with the previous one...
