The handle size corresponds to it's useable length. The blades length is different from the blade & socket length. Unless it is otherwise stated, the socket is 9" / 23cm. To get your overall shovel length (from top of grip to blade tip), add the handle length, blade length, and socket length.

We offer 4 handle choices, with shaft lengths ranging between (including handle) 7 inches to 19 inches, except our Staff Handle which is 27 inches. All handles are interchangeable or compatible with all blades. Unless you get a Staff, your handle shaft length is probably the most important consideration when choosing this component.
To figure out what length of handle you need, you may need to know what the "overall" length of the blade is. These "specs" are found at the bottom of each blades desciption.

We have two mainstream styles in four sizes. Traditional and Asymmetric in 7", 8.5", 10", and 12.5" sizes. We also have variations to those, including Wider blades, Kickerless blades, and custom blades.

The "Size" corresponds to the blade's length, from the kicker to the tip.

08.5inch-AsymmetricBlade(L)Kicker-22.5cm For 2010, this blade is made custom and is not the "factory version". You are viewing the 8.5" Asymmetric (one kicker) Blade. This blade is designed to plant average sized tree stock. It's dimensions prevent you from doing extra work every time you plant a tree, and is more efficient with todays treeplanting styles.  It also has many improved features, and though it has good looks, it is what's inside that counts. It is made from a stainless steel alloy that is hardened to 40C<47C on the Rockwell Scale. At this hardness, the blade could outlast the average planters career. Other things to mention are the rounded and polished kickers and edges, which will prevent wearing holes in your boots, and will not scatch or cut your hand. There are many more fine details that any veteran planter would appreciate. The advantages to having a single kicker are; fewer irritating slash and or root hang-ups; the one kicker has twice the surface area for stomping on, and will prevent wearing holes in your expensive boots.  LEFT KICKER ON (Front Side View) PLEASE BE CERTAIN OF WHICH KICKER YOU WANT. "New planters" are recommended to have kicker in the middle, which means a RIGHT kicker for a "left side shovel hand". If you are left hand dominant, it is likely that this will be your shovel hand.
